Take a stroll in Guangyuan and go on a relaxing tea journey

In Sichuan, there is an underestimated treasure city, which is Guangyuan, an important transportation hub between Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.
In Guangyuan, you will find that the romance of the ancients and modern civilization coexist so harmoniously. This is the birthplace of the Three Kingdoms culture and the only city in China with the Three Kingdoms culture as its theme. Cultural celebrities such as Li Bai and Su Shi have left a large number of popular poems here, and the beautiful scenery they described is still there today. Guangyuan is also the largest habitat of the world's rare animal golden monkey. The forest coverage rate here is as high as more than 60%, making it a veritable natural oxygen bar.
Here, you can feel the purest Sichuan culture, experience the pristine natural scenery, and taste authentic northern Sichuan cuisine.

Tea travel itinerary:

DAY1: Visit the hometown of tea DAY2: How can you not see giant pandas when you come to Sichuan? DAY3: Walk through the forest and visit an ancient city DAY4: Walk through the "Jianmen Pass" and there will be no difficulties in life from now on. DAY5: Thousand-Buddha Cliff, a thousand years of history at a glance

Day 1

▍Visit the hometown of tea

The first day's itinerary is easy and simple. You can arrive in Chengdu at your own time. If you communicate the time with us in advance, we will arrange a pick-up at the airport. Then, we will open up your feelings about the city with local food and welcome the next journey with a relaxed mind and body.

At the bottom of Citadel Hill is Wasat Al-Balad, the oldest part of Amman. Here’s where you can discover real Jordanian life through its old buildings, crumbling archeological ruins by the side of the road, cute cafes and bookstores, fresh produce markets, and stores selling scarves, gold, herbs and spices, fresh juices, and delicious desserts like Kunafeh (goats cheese. topped with wheat and pistachio).

After lunch, we enjoyed sage tea in the pretty gorgeous outdoor seating area shaded by huge trees and fragrant flowers, and shopped in the small stores filled with preserved jars of food, knitted hats and bags, jewelry and other trinkets and souvenirs. These stores are a part of Beit Khairat Souf’s Women’s Community Project created to help women financially support themselves.

Day 2

▍When visiting Sichuan, how can you not see the giant pandas?

Sichuan is the main habitat of giant pandas. Currently, more than 30% of the world's endangered wild giant pandas live here. There are 1,387 wild giant pandas and 548 captive giant pandas, totaling 1,935 pandas. Sichuan has always been the best choice for viewing giant pandas.
Most of the panda bases are built on the mountains, with the undulating landforms and buildings blending in. (Therefore, climbing up and down the slopes is essential for everyone to visit the base.) The semi-original panda villas can restore the natural environment of the giant pandas, and you can see the pandas in their most natural state.
The pandas are open from 9:00-11:00 in the morning and from 14:00-16:00 in the afternoon. We set out in the morning and were able to see the more active cubs eating bamboo, and playing around.

▍First sight of Guangyuan

We took the train from Chengdu to Guangyuan. After checking in at the hotel, we followed our stomachs and headed for Guangyuan's bustling streets. You'll find that this small city still retains its most rustic appearance, without excessive commercialization and development. Between the busy shops on the streets and the quiet green mountains in the distance, there is only real nature and humanity. Every step and every breath here can make you feel a long-lost tranquility and nature.
Have an authentic midnight snack, every bite will make you linger.

Amman Accommodation: Kempinski Hotel

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting such a nice hotel to be part of a tour. Kempinski Hotel was in a great location in Amman’s central business district, the service was outstanding, and the rooms were very comfortable with the biggest and best pillows I’ve ever had. The bathroom towels were gigantic and just as luxurious as the fluffy robe. I couldn’t have wished for a more comfortable bed for the 13 hour sleep I had on my first evening - after 30 hours without it.

Spending 15 minutes each day in the complimentary steam and sauna room in the Spa helped me recover from jet lag. The buffet breakfast and dinners were also delicious and full of Jordanian food. Hotel breakfast and dinner buffets are included in the Globus tour. There are local restaurants within walking distance to the hotel if you want to eat out. You will love having 5 Star accommodation at affordable prices on your Escape by Globus tours.

Return After A Long Week Of Memories

What you do on this final day of your Jordan tour depends on what time you are flying out. Globus will transfer you directly to Amman airport from the Movenpick Resort and Spa.

Hot Tip: My flight was early morning, so I left the resort about 10pm. Had I known how great the Dead Sea Resort and Spa was, I would have delayed my flight until the following day and stayed an extra night and morning.

Day 3

▍First sight of Guangyuan

The next morning, after having the hotel’s buffet breakfast, we headed into the mountains.
Zhaohua Ancient City is located in Zhaohua Town, Guangyuan, at the confluence of Bailong River(白龙江), Jialing River(嘉陵江) and Qing River(清江). It has many ancient sites and relics. It is the only Three Kingdoms ancient city that is best preserved in China and a good place to explore the Three Kingdoms culture.
Speaking of Zhaohua, perhaps not many people know about it. If you talk about "Jiameng Pass(葭萌关)", readers who love "Three Kingdoms" are probably familiar with it. Today's Zhaohua Ancient City in Guangyuan City is the "Jiameng Pass" during the "Three Kingdoms". Before Zhaohua was built, it was an important pass connecting Chengdu and Chang'an's "Jinniu Road". Zhaohua was built as a "city" because of the "pass". After the city was built, "Jiameng Pass" still existed. Linqing Gate is the west gate of the ancient city, and it is also the pass of "Jiameng Pass". It is said that this is the only pass in the country that uses "city" as a "pass".
The ancient city of Zhaohua was the capital of the State of Ju(苴) more than 2,000 years ago, with a history of 2,400 years. However, it took several hundred years for Guangyuan City, which governs Zhaohua, to establish a county and a city. The highest pursuit of ancient scholars was to set up great ambitions, build great achievements, and leave a name in history. Zhang Song(张松) presented the military map of Sichuan to Liu Bei(刘备), which facilitated Liu Bei(刘备)'s occupation of Sichuan. Perhaps he himself did not expect that his "presentation" would actually lead to the situation of the Three Kingdoms and also make the ancient city of Zhaohua an important place in history.

▍Explore the cliff carvings(摩崖石刻)

Huangze Temple is located on the bank of Jialing River and at the foot of Wulong Mountain. It is a temple dedicated to Wu Zetian(武则天), the only female emperor in Chinese history. It now houses the only stone statue of Wu Zetian in China. Because her mother was a Buddhist, Wu Zetian often went to Qianfo Cliff with her mother to burn incense when she was young. After Wu Zetian became emperor, she gave the name "Huangze" to commemorate her birthplace, implying that the emperor's grace was great and benefited the people.

When you walk into Huangze Temple, you will find that it is filled with cliff carvings from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

There are 57 niches and caves in the temple from the late Northern Wei Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, and more than 1,200 cliff sculptures. The main niches and caves include the Big Buddha Cave, the Central Pillar Cave, the Five Buddha Caves, and the Heart Sutra Cave. These stone sculptures have smooth lines and vivid shapes. They not only show the superb skills of ancient craftsmen, but also reflect the aesthetic concepts of the society at that time. Among these stone carvings, the stone sculpture of Wu Zetian is particularly eye-catching. She is dressed in Buddhist clothes and has a kind face, as if telling the world about that glorious history.

▍Tasting Guangyuan Tea

In the evening, you don’t have to rush down the mountain, but go to the Tea Culture Communication Center of Zhengshantang. Here, you can experience making tea by yourself and drink a variety of Guangyuan tea.

Let's enjoy the stunning sunset together and feel the coexistence with Guangyuan tea. Don't think about anything and just devote yourself to tea and the scenery.

Finally, end the day with a delicious Sichuan hotpot.

Day 4

▍After passing Jianmen Pass, there will be no more difficulties in life.

Jianmen Pass(剑门关), located in Guangyuan, is an important military fortress connecting Shu(蜀,Sichuan's abbreviation) and the Central Plains in ancient times. It has been a battleground for military strategists since ancient times. The mountains here are steep and majestic, and have been a battleground for military strategists many times in history. Li Bai called it "one man guarding the pass, ten thousand men cannot open it" in "The Difficult Road to Shu".
In the 22nd year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (217 AD), Liu Bei entered Sichuan, and Jianmen Pass became an important stronghold of Shu Han(蜀汉). Zhuge Liang(诸葛亮) imitated the Baoxiadao(褒斜道) built in the Qin Dynasty and ordered people to dig rocks, insert wood as beams, build a plank road, and build a pavilion beam on the plank road to ensure the safety of the road. This plank road is the Jiange Road. At the same time, Zhuge Liang built a stone gate on the pavilion road to defend the safety of Shu. This is the predecessor of Jianmen Pass.
At the end of Shu Han, Jiang Wei(姜维) stationed troops at Jianmen Pass and held the pass to resist Cao Wei's(曹魏) army of more than 100,000. Zhong Hui(钟会) failed to capture the pass after multiple frontal attacks. It was not until Deng Ai sneaked across Yinping Road(阴平道) and Liu Shan(刘禅) surrendered that Zhong Hui's army was able to pass.
Standing on the city wall and overlooking the magnificent mountains and rivers around, you can feel the weight and vicissitudes of history.

▍Walk along the ancient Shu Road and explore the Cuiyun Corridor(翠云廊)

Jinniu Road(金牛道) is one of the southern sections of the Qin-Shu Ancient Road. It was built in the pre-Qin period and was named after the story of the King of Qin conquering Shu, the stone ox dunging gold, and the Five Dings clearing the way. It is the most important road in Sichuan and Shaanxi and the first road recorded in history books in ancient Shu history. It is about 600 kilometers long and is known as the "living fossil of world land transportation." It is one of the earliest large-scale transportation sites preserved to this day, and is more than 3,000 years old.
Cuiyun Corridor was first built in the Qin and Han Dynasties and completed in the Ming Dynasty. It is part of the Jinniu Road. It connects today's Jiange County(剑阁县) and Zitong County(梓潼县), and has the best-preserved, largest and most numerous artificial road ancient trees in China. The bluestone paved road is 5 kilometers long, which can be called a world wonder and the soul of Shu Road.
At that time, military and political exchanges were frequent, and Jianzhou was an important place that must be passed from Shudu to the Central Plains. In order not to delay the delivery of books, Zhang Fei(张飞) ordered the planting of cypresses along the way as a record. Soldiers and civilians worked together. A large number of cypresses were planted along the post road. To this day, the story of Zhang Fei "planting trees in the morning and enjoying the cool in the afternoon" is still circulating among the people. Later generations called the cypresses planted by Shu Han "Zhang Fei Cypress". According to research, the ancient cypresses with a chest diameter of more than 1.8 meters in Cuiyun Temple should be "Zhang Fei Cypress". The oldest cypress in Cuiyun Corridor is more than 2,300 years old, and there are more than 7,000 such thousand-year-old cypresses in Jiange alone. Therefore, Cuiyun Corridor, the "soul of Shu Road", is called "Shu Road Wonder" and "Living Forest Fossil".

▍Strolling through the old tea garden at Jianmen Pass

Surrounded by clouds and mist, and lush greenery, it seems like a work of art carefully crafted by nature. The tea trees here, after thousands of years of wind, frost, rain and snow, are still tall and green, telling the long history of tea culture.
Thousands of years ago, Guangyuan and tea had a long history. In 1046 BC, King Wu of Zhou(周武王) destroyed the Shang Dynasty and the State of Ba surrendered to the king. "The State of Ba paid tribute with tea from the people of Ju." This is the earliest written record of tribute tea so far. Guangyuan was the seat of the ancient Ju State. This record is enough to show that Guangyuan had tribute tea in the early Zhou Dynasty. It is not difficult to feel the simplicity and weight of history.
The original Jianmenguan Old Tea Factory was established in 1985. Here, while visiting the Zhengshantang Tea Culture Research Base, you can apply tea knowledge to practice and get a detailed analysis of how to judge the quality of tea trees. You can personally experience and understand the characteristics of tea trees and the style and value of the tea they produce.
In the evening, enjoy another kind of sweetness of Guangyuan on your tongue with a unique Jiange soup pot.

Unlike other ancient Roman cities, you’ll see little restoration; buildings are as it was during the Roman days (or how it has crumbled since). Contemplate that as you walk around exploring what’s left of cultural centers like temples, theaters, and hippodromes. White Australia has such a short, colonized history that you wouldn’t find a building under 200 years old.

You can still see the Greek inscriptions in the crumbling remains of the façade that once faced the city. About three hundred years later, the Romans took control where it grew to be one of the most impressive Roman cities to ever exist.

Day 5

▍Thousand Buddha Cliff, a thousand years at a glance

On the ancient Shu Road on the east bank of the Jialing River, there is the largest group of grottoes in Sichuan.
The Thousand Buddha Cliff is 388 meters long and 45 meters high, with a total of 13 layers, like a honeycomb, carved on the steep cliff. There are 950 niches and caves with more than 7,000 statues on the Thousand Buddha Cliff. It was first carved in the late Northern Wei Dynasty. After thousands of years, it is still lifelike. The exquisite carving skills and bright colors are the embodiment of the wisdom of generations. It will definitely shock you.
Standing on the Thousand Buddha Cliff, you can overlook the entire Jialing River and feel the spiritual energy of the world.
